Day order, means your order is good for the trading day. If your order was not done, it expires at the close of the trading day. GTC means Good Til Cancelled. In case your order is neither done nor cancelled, it will expire after 60 days. ATC or at the close, is an off-hour order.

It is done by those who cannot order within the trading hours. Your order must match the price of the stock at the close of the trading day. That is the drawback of off-hour orders. Another off-hour order is ATO or at the open.
