Convert string to int JOptionPane Posted 27 February - In the first part of the book there is a simple program to take two integer inputs from a user, add them together and produce the result. But now I'm doing the optional GUI track and they have an exercise to take this addition program and use JOptionPane dialogs to take in a string and convert it to an integer using Integer.

The only issue is that they don't really tell you how to use or approach doing this. I'm a bit confused.

Do I need to declare number1 as an integer before using it as a string, is it converted? Hopefully one day I can return the favor.
